    Meet Josh Smith, LMFT

    I tend to have a pretty directive approach to therapy. I have found that most people respond better to a similar approach we find at any doctor's office, that is; when we see a doctor we tell them "this hurts" and then they tell us what we can do to change that issue.

    If someone tells me they are anxious all the time, I will take a solution focused approach to help them find a way to try and feel less anxious more and more over time.

    While I will still ask the occasional "how does that make you feel?" therapist question, most of our time together will be focused on learning what you want to change in your life and how you can change that.

    I have an interminable sense of curiosity and I will ask "why" as much as any toddler. The more I can learn about your situation and understand how you think and behave, the better we can work to craft a specific intervention for you directly. There is no "one size fits all" approach, so let's tailor it to you!

    I have extensive experience working with anxiety and depression as well as trauma and bipolar. I will provide safe and non-judgmental spaces for everyone of all genders, orientations (I am a kinkaware therapist), and beliefs.

    Lastly, I also have quite a bit of adjacent experience to the family law system and helping clients understand what is expected of them. One point to note: I have worked to help any number of people navigate an abusive relationship and I am more than fully capable of helping you figure out how to deal with a narcissist in your life.
